In Part 1 we explored how we are a new creation in Christ, and who we are redeemed to be in Christ. However, just knowing who you are in Christ is not enough. How do you walk every day in the confidence of who you are in Christ?

Let’s explore some daily practical steps to live out our identity in Christ.
- Speak life over yourself.
What do you say about yourself? Do you say negative things about yourself all the time? The tongue is very powerful, (Proverbs 18:21). It’s important to note that God created the whole world with spoken words (Genesis 1).
You can’t keep speaking fear, doubt, worry, negativity and expect positive results. Words are like seeds that can be planted and harvested. Today, be challenged to speak God’s word over your life and circumstances no matter the situation.

- Renew your mind with the truth in God’s word.
What do you think about? Do you just believe any thought that comes to your mind and dwell on it? Do you just accept whatever thought pops up in your mind as the truth?
You have to daily renew your mind with the truth which is in God’s word. Not every thought that drops in your mind is the truth. The truth is in the word of God. Philippians 4:13 has told us what to dwell on in our thinking.

The world constantly tells us who we should be—successful, attractive, or popular. But God’s truth is different. To live confidently in your identity, you need to renew your mind daily by replacing lies with Scripture.
To make this a practical step, you can write a list of the negative thoughts that you are starting to believe and replace them with the truth. (E.g ‘I would always struggle in my health’ with ‘God is restoring health to me (Jeremiah 30:17)’. Keep declaring these truths even if the negative thoughts might keep popping up. Remember your tongue has the power of life or death.
- Let go of condemnation and false guilt.
All born again Christians have an enemy-the devil. The enemy loves to remind us of what we don’t do well, how bad we were, what we are still struggling with —to trap us in the cycle of false guilt and condemnation.

However, remember that anyone in Christ is a new creature, the old you is gone (2 Corinthians 5:17). You are forgiven and free in Christ Jesus. You are not the same person you were. If you keep feeling guilty and condemned, you won’t walk in your new identity in Christ. Whenever the false guilt remind yourself that you are saved and forgiven in Christ. Your past or present struggles does not define you. Remember God’s love and grace is bigger than your mistakes. You are free in Christ.

- Walk boldly in Faith
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1 NIV
As a Christian, there would be storms of life that would come up to test your identity in Christ. You need to stand firm in faith — your identity is not based on how you feel in the moment, your identity is based on the truth in the world of God. Feelings are fleeting, God’s word is eternal. Whenever doubt creeps in, keep reminding yourself of the word of God. I would suggest you read Hebrews 11 to further understand faith.

- Surround yourself with Godly people.
You can’t do life on your own, to grow in faith and in your Christ given identity—it’s important to surround yourself with fellow Christians. It’s important for us to encourage and pray for one another. Who you are surrounded with would definitely influence who you are and who you become. If the people you hang out with always tear you down and ridicule you you would struggle in your Christ given identity. I would encourage you to seek out Christian relationships that would always encourage your faith and remind you of who you are in Christ.

In conclusion, remember that it’s a daily journey. Some days would be harder than others, but as you continue to walk in faith, speak life, renew your mind and surround yourself with fellow Christians you would keeping walking in confidence in your Christ given identity. I would encourage you to practice these steps daily.
